Fremont Fire Prevention Bureau oversees the Weed and Vegetation Management Program for undeveloped parcels, open lots, and fields located within the City of Fremont. This program sets Minimum Abatement Standards for weed and vegetation found on parcels, open lots, and field with the intent to reduce wildfire fuel loads, mitigate risks, strengthen public safety, and safeguard community property.
Program goals:
- Promote Fire safety and environmental emergency preparedness.
- Minimize fire hazards and wildfire risk through strategic vegetation removal on wildlands.
- Stop and prevent the spread of destructive wildfires.
- Decrease the risk to firefighters and other emergency responders when combating vegetation fires.
Weed / Vegetation Management Annual Inspections (Key Dates):

Abatement Notices Mailed: May 1, 2026 Compliance Date: June 16, 2026 Inspections Start Date: June 17, 2026

Inspections will include the following:
- Identify overgrown weeds, dry grass, and other potential fire hazards.
- Review compliance with local defensible‑space ordinances.
- Require property owners remove combustible materials such as dead plants and dry leaves.
- Focus on and necessitate reduction of wildfire risk (dry vegetation, accumulation of combustible materials, proximity of vegetation to structures, blocked driveways, building materials that are not fire‑resistant, etc.) within a 30‑ to 100‑foot zone surrounding structures.
