Minimum Abatement Standards- Vegetation Management

Local Fire Departments and Counties apply fire safety regulations referred to as Minimum Abatement Standards particularly in regions susceptible to wildfires.

  • These standards are aimed at reducing the risk of fires on private and public land by requiring the removal of hazardous vegetation, dry weeds, and combustible debris that could ignite and/or help fire spread.
  • Each person who has any ownership, possession, or control of a parcel of land in a residential, business, industrial area, or land which is unused or vacant, are required to meet these minimum standards.

Minimum Abatement Standards-Zone

In each zone, the intensity of vegetation management increases as you get closer to your home. The goal is to start at your house and work outward, reaching up to 100 feet or your property line, whichever is closer.

  • Zone 0 (SOME ITEMS ARE RECOMMENDED ONLY WHILE OTHER ARE REQUIRED)
  • Extends 0-5 feet from your home.
  • Focusses on Intense fuel reduction to protect against ember attacks.
  • Zones 1 & 2 (REQUIRED):
  • Covers up to 100 feet around your home.
  • Vegetation Management is required by law.
  • Varying levels of vegetation management becomes applicable.
