Make a Positive Impact in the Lives of Youth
About
The Youth Overcoming program supports young people receiving mental‑health services through the City of Fremont’s Youth and Family Services. The program gives therapists access to flexible funds they can use to help youth reach their mental‑health goals by enrolling them in activities their families cannot afford. These activities may include art classes, sports teams, music lessons, or other programs that help a young person feel supported, connected, and valued.
Founded by the Leadership Fremont 2025 cohort, Youth Overcoming has already helped 17 youth access activities that strengthen their well‑being. Therapists report that these opportunities bring comfort, build confidence, and give youth a positive outlet during difficult times.
Your gift helps more young people benefit from these valuable funds.

Help Youth like Silvia
Sixteen‑year‑old Silvia, her mother, and her brother have faced many challenges, including domestic violence, trauma, substance use in the family, involvement with the justice system, and periods of homelessness. These experiences have strained Silvia’s relationship with her mother.
In therapy, the focus has been on helping Silvia heal and on rebuilding the bond between mother and daughter. Despite everything, they share a love of fashion and creativity. They enjoy finding low‑cost clothing at flea markets and vintage shops, then sewing and redesigning the pieces by hand. They had always hoped for a sewing machine, but it wasn’t something they could afford.
Through the Youth Overcoming program, the family received a sewing machine and basic supplies. They were thrilled and quickly began creating new pieces together. This gift has given Silvia a positive outlet for self‑expression, boosted her confidence, and offered meaningful time with her mother—strengthening a relationship that is deeply important to them.
