About the Project

The 40-acre Pacific Commons Sports Park is located at the end of Auto Mall Parkway towards the Baylands. The proposed programming of the Pacific Commons Sports Park Master Plan is still in progress due to budget considerations, but at a minimum will include:

  • Approximately 20 pickleball courts
  • Parking
  • Internal trails that provide access to the Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge, access to the existing Pacific Commons bike trail network, and the existing perimeter trail. Trails will be concrete surfacing and decomposed granite surfacing. Trails closer to the entrance will be lighted for safety. Trails closer to the Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge Area will not be lighted.
  • Access to the Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge Area.
  • A fenced, secured dog park which include a separate small dog park area to allow for separation of large and small dogs.
  • Playgrounds for tots and school aged children.
  • Picnic areas for large group reservations, and individual drop-in tables.
  • Entry plaza with retaining wall seating, paver surfacing, decomposed granite surfacing, alee tree planting, benches, picnic tables and pedestrian safety lighting.
  • One restroom structure
  • 9-to-18-hole frisbee golf course.
  • Planting areas for native groundcover, shrub, and tree planting.
  • Grassy mounds and earthwork.

CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) Process

The City is in the process of hiring an environmental consultant to begin the environmental review process (CEQA).

  • Begin Construction Documents, Summer-Fall 2026
  • Project out to Bid, Winter 2026/Spring 2027
  • Start Construction, Summer 2027
  • Target Completion, Summer 2028
