The City of Fremont's Olive Hyde Art Gallery presents its 56th Annual Textile Exhibition, showcasing traditional and contemporary textile and fiber art by local artists. Discover an inspiring collection of woven works, fiber sculptures, quilts, mixed-media textiles, and more.
Several quilt favorites will be showcased including Denise Oyama Miller's fascinating, award-winning nature-inspired quilts. Alongside these familiar works, the exhibition welcomes artwork from 20 artists participating for the very first time, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative techniques to this long-running exhibition.
A few artists who participated in the Gallery's recent Matrix: A Printmaking Exhibition have also decided to participate in the textile exhibition, incorporating printmaking techniques into their textile pieces and highlighting the creative connections between these artistic disciplines. Well-known local printmaker Karen Barry takes an unexpected turn with a whimsical Groovy Crochet Bag, a delightful departure from her intricate, multi-colored linocut prints.
Textile art is one of humanity's oldest and most enduring forms of artistic expression. Historically dismissed as "women's work" or simply craft, contemporary fiber artists continue to challenge those outdated perceptions. Through innovation, experimentation, and extraordinary craftsmanship, the artists in this exhibition redefine what textile art can be. Year after year, we are inspired by their ingenuity, creativity, and ability to expand the possibilities of fiber as an artistic medium.
