Overview

The City of Fremont was awarded a $1.5 million Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Grant to support affordable housing projects in the Centerville Transit Oriented District area by improving access to the historic Centerville Train Depot.  The Centerville Train Depot Plaza Improvement Project will improve active transportation access for ACE and Amtrak train riders and revitalize the plaza as a community gathering and event space.

Goals

The Centerville Train Depot Plaza Improvement Project aims to:
  • Create a gateway and landmark treatment for the Centerville District
  • Allow for greater visibility of the historic Centerville Train Depot building
  • Provide better pedestrian and bicycle access to the train station and plaza by widening the accessways from Fremont Boulevard.
  • Expand the usable plaza area by allowing seamless interaction between the plaza and café deck space.
  • Allow for the plaza to be utilized as a community gathering and event space in the Centerville District.
