Pedestrian Crossing Enhancement Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

As part of the City’s traffic safety program, improving uncontrolled pedestrian crossings on high-speed, multi-lane arterial roadways has been identified as a priority.  Uncontrolled pedestrian crossings are crosswalks that are not controlled by a traffic signal or STOP sign.  Historically, uncontrolled pedestrian crossings on wide arterial roadways with high traffic volume and speeds have high potential for vehicle/pedestrian conflict.

In May 2025, the City Council adopted the Active Transportation Plan (ATP) which included a five-year work plan that continues to prioritize pedestrian crossing enhancements along active transportation priority corridors, around schools, and connecting neighborhood walking destinations.
