Home EV Charging Stations

Property owners installing a stand-alone Level 1 or Level 2 EV charging station should apply for an Express Residential Electrical Permit. Express permits are for projects with a limited scope of work and are issued automatically.

Home EV Charging Stations with Battery Storage and/or Solar

Battery and rooftop solar

Property owners installing an EV charging station with a battery storage system and/or solar system should apply for a Renewable Energy Permit. The City's Community Development Department is responsible for reviewing and approving Renewable Energy Permits.

Commercial/Multifamily Property EV Charging Stations

Commercial properties and residential properties installing EV charging stations in a parking lot should apply for a Renewable Energy Permit. In addition, Level 3 charging stations require this permit. The City's Community Development Department is responsible for reviewing and approving Renewable Energy Permits.
