Wireless Emergency Alerts

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are short emergency text messages sent to mobile devices in a locally targeted area. The message is accompanied by an alert tone that overrides sound settings, and vibration. Pay close attention when you receive a WEA: your safety may depend on taking immediate action, such as evacuating an area.

You don't need to opt-in to receive WEAs, but your phone must be on and within range of cell towers.
