In recent years, Fremont and the entire Bay Area region have experienced a significant growth in homelessness. To help meet the needs of unhoused residents and address health, safety, and environmental impacts associated with homelessness, the City has developed a multi-departmental approach, including a Homelessness Response Plan.
The City's response to homelessness in Fremont includes the following efforts.
The City serves community members experiencing homelessness, primarily through the Human Services Department and community-based partner organizations. The goal is to provide services and programs that promote equity, remove barriers to housing, improve quality of life, and encourage stabilization.
The City's Mobile Evaluation Team (MET) responds to calls to Fremont Police involving community members experiencing a mental health crisis, some of whom are homeless. The team provides a compassionate level of service to those with mental illness.
The City responds to concerns from the community, provides outreach of services to homeless individuals and families, and coordinates with other City departments and public agencies.
